Weekly Column: New Assignments for the 119th Congress

On Monday, I officially announced the committees I will be serving on in the 119th Congress. I am excited to take on two new leadership roles while continuing to serve on both the House Financial Services Committee as well as the House Foreign Affairs Committee.
This Congress, I will be serving as the Vice-Chairman of the House Financial Services Committee. This is the second highest position on the committee. I look forward to working with Chairman French Hill (R-AR) to ensure Washington is working to build a more economically secure future for the American people. This can be achieved by working to right-size regulation, prioritizing innovation, focusing on everyday investors, and making sure our capital markets remain the envy of the world. I look forward to working with Chairman Hill to accomplish these vitally important objectives. For the first time, I will have a leadership role on the House Foreign Affairs Committee as chair of the Subcommittee on South & Central Asia. This subcommittee encompasses the countries of Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan. I am excited about the opportunity to lead a subcommittee in only my second term on the Foreign Affairs Committee. Last Congress, I was able to offer a pragmatic voice on foreign policy matters, including efforts to hold the Biden Administration accountable for their disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan. Moving forward, the South and Central Asian region presents both unique opportunities as well as unique challenges, and I look forward to working with Chairman Mast to put America First. I hope these weekly columns provide greater insight into how I am continuing to serve Southwest Michigan.
