Weekly Column: Delivering Results for Southwest Michigan

Recently, I discussed how inflation has climbed by 20% under the Biden-Harris Administration. While inflation is a tax on all Americans, a July study from Wallet Hub found that Michiganders are the most “financially distressed” residents in the nation. I am a firm believer that Washington needs to work for Southwest Michigan, not against it. With that in mind, I wanted to share some of the legislation I have supported to address the ongoing affordability crisis.

I have voted for the Lower Energy Costs Act, the REIN In Inflation Act, which would curb inflation-hiking executive orders from the Biden-Harris Administration, and the Lower Costs, More Transparency Act, which addresses the cost of prescription drugs. These measures are designed to combat inflation and put downward pressure on the price of energy, medicine, and overall goods and services.

Another way I am working to address the affordability crisis is by putting forward bipartisan solutions to rein in federal spending and get our nation’s fiscal house in order. While it is a tall order to break Washington’s addiction to spending, I introduced the Fiscal Commission Act to do just that.

While policymaking garners most of the attention from media outlets, serving constituents and delivering critical results to residents here in Southwest Michigan is one of the most fulfilling parts of being your voice in Congress. I am happy to report that in the month of August alone, my team returned a combined $524,784.00 from federal agencies to constituents across Southwest Michigan, including $485,254.00 from the IRS alone.

In times when many individuals, families, and small businesses are struggling to make ends meet, my team and I are honored to be advocates for our community and help residents of Southwest Michigan put more of their hard-earned money back in their pockets.

Whether you are having a problem with the IRS, Social Security Administration, VA, or another government agency, my team and I are here to help. If you need assistance, please contact my office in Holland at (616) 251-6741 or in Portage at (269) 569-8595.
