VIDEO: Huizenga Stands Up for Burmese Residents in SW Michigan, Presses Biden Administration for Stronger Sanctions Against Military Junta During Hearing with Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen
Washington,
July 9, 2024
Today, Congressman Bill Huizenga (R-MI) challenged Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen on the Biden Administration’s handling of the dire situation in Burma. Specifically, Huizenga pressed Yellen about the Administration’s failure to enact tougher sanctions on the military junta in Burma who are using aircraft to commit genocide. Last week, Huizenga announced the BRAVE Burma Act with bipartisan support to crack down on the junta and limit their ability to use military aircraft on civilian populations. Congressman Huizenga also serves as the Republican Co-Chair of the Congressional Burma Caucus which he helped launch in February. This caucus was created to bolster congressional support for the Burmese people in their fight for democracy and human rights against the brutal military junta. Video of Rep. Huizenga’s exchange with Secretary Yellen at today’s House Financial Services Committee Hearing.
