Weekly Column: Good News for Berrien County

Last week, I joined local leaders in celebrating the opening of the new Whirlpool Technology Center expansion in St. Joseph. This state-of-the-art facility is the result of a $60 million investment in Berrien County. During the event, I discussed the importance of creating high-quality jobs and how this significant investment will create economic opportunity not only in St. Joe and Benton Harbor, but for all of Berrien County for years to come.

After the ribbon-cutting ceremony, I had the opportunity to tour the campus and see first-hand the new features it has to offer. The center will serve as the workspace for more than 500 employees and be home to 21 labs where engineers will put everything from washers, dryers, and dishwashers to small appliances, including the KitchenAid Stand Mixer, through a battery of rigorous testing.

In today’s competitive marketplace, neighboring states and even other countries are working overtime trying to lure major investments like this away. It is great to see an industry leader in sustainability like Whirlpool continue to invest and remain committed to Benton Harbor, St. Joe, and Michigan. As your voice in Congress, I will continue to support and advance policies that lower the cost of living, create good-paying jobs, and make Southwest Michigan an even better place to live, work, and raise a family.
