Huizenga Announces Introduction of Bipartisan Small Farm to School Act

Today, Congressman Bill Huizenga (R-MI) announced the introduction of the Small Farm to School Act. This bipartisan bill was introduced with Congressman Antonio Delgado (D-NY). The Small Farm to School Act launches a pilot program to incentivize partnerships between small farms and local schools with the goal of providing students with nutritious, locally grown food.

“The Small Farm to School Act is a commonsense measure designed to help connect students with locally sourced food,” said Congressman Bill Huizenga. “Here in West Michigan, this would create opportunities for fruit and vegetable growers as well as other agricultural producers to play an even greater role in providing students with high quality, locally grown food. Given the incredible agricultural diversity here in West Michigan and the important role agriculture plays in Michigan’s economy, I am proud to introduce this bipartisan measure with Rep. Delgado to support healthy options for children and strengthen our family farms.”

“The bipartisan Small Farm to School Act is good for our farmers and good for our families,” said Congressman Delgado. “We should be looking for every opportunity to support our farmers and small businesses while helping our young people access more nutritious, locally-grown food. This bill will help form new partnerships and support our farmers as we recover from COVID-19 and rebuild our communities.”
