Huizenga Calls for Accountability, Investigation into Why the Michigan National Guard Continues to Receive Unsafe Food on Fox News

This morning, Congressman Bill Huizenga (MI-02) and Congressman Jack Bergman (MI-01) appeared on Fox News to call for accountability and to discuss the unsafe quality of food Michigan National Guard service members have received while deployed to the U.S. Capitol. During the interview, Congressman Huizenga called for members of the Guard to be provided a per diem and both Representative Huizenga and Representative Bergman called for an investigation into how this unacceptable action has continued. Additionally, the Congressmen called for our citizen soldiers to return home to Michigan. To watch the interview, please click on the image below.

Congressman Huizenga on correcting the issue and further investigation:

My solution to this is let’s give the troops a per diem. Allow them to have an MRE while they are out on the line, but then they can go purchase their own food [during] their off duty time. Once they are home, [the] investigation needs to happen. We’ve got this short-term where we have to take care of them and make sure they have decent food. When they go home on the 12th, hopefully, that’s when we need to have this investigation.

On Bringing the Guard Home:

We’ve been asking for threat assessments and security briefings. Those have been refused by the Speaker so far. We need to know why [the Guard] has been here, but again they are here so let’s make sure we take care of them. It is time for the Guard to come home in my opinion.
