Huizenga Calls out Political Theater, Shoots Down Notion of Casino Investing, Asks "Roaring Kitty" About Investing in GameStop at Hearing Today

Today, Congressman Bill Huizenga (MI-02), Ranking Member of the Investor Protection, Entrepreneurship, and Capital Markets Subcommittee posed questions during a hearing filled with political theatrics on the Robinhood App, GameStop and retail investing.

During the hearing, Rep. Huizenga addressed the importance of retail investing for individuals and shot down the notion that retail investment was like a casino where people gamble with fake money. Additionally, Congressman Huizenga asked Redditor Keith Gill if he would still invest in GameStop today.

After his questioning, Congressman Huizenga released the following statement: “Retail investors participate and invest in the stock market to accumulate savings for a more prosperous future with the understanding that there is always some level of risk involved. The notion that retail investing is somehow a casino where people place bets with monopoly money is absolutely false. Innovation that continues to open new ways for individuals to participate and access our financial markets should be celebrated. Moving forward, Congress should be working to create a regulatory environment that supports innovation and encourages retail investors to fully participate in our financial markets.”
