Huizenga Introduces Amendment Blocking Iran From Accessing U.S. Financial System to Defense Bill
Washington,
July 13, 2020
Today, Congressman Bill Huizenga (MI-02), a leading Republican voice on the House Financial Services Committee, announced the introduction of an amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) that would block the Iranian Government from accessing the U.S. banking system. The Huizenga amendment expresses the sense of the Congress that U.S. citizens’ bank deposits should not be used to finance the Government of Iran, and prohibits the issuing of licenses that authorize U.S. financial institutions to provide financial services to Tehran. “Iran is the world’s foremost state sponsor of terror,” said Congressman Huizenga. “This commonsense measure prevents the hard earned money that Americans deposit in their financial institutions from being used to finance the terrorism exported by the corrupt regime in Iran. The Iranian Government should not have access to the U.S. financial system.” The House is scheduled to begin consideration of the National Defense Authorization Act next week |
