Huizenga Introduces Patriot Bonus to Support & Encourage Pay Raises for Essential Workers
Washington,
April 30, 2020
Today, Congressman Bill Huizenga (MI-02) announced the introduction of H.R. 6629 the Patriot Bonus Tax Credit Act in the U.S. House of Representatives. The Patriot Bonus is designed to support pay raises for essential workers. Under the Patriot Bonus, the federal government would provide a refundable tax credit for half of any form of wage increase put forward by an employer. This would apply to a raise in hourly wages, salary increases, or any bonus wages earned during the coronavirus outbreak. “All across America, truck drivers are delivering supplies, grocery store employees are stocking shelves, and sanitation workers are helping keep our communities clean,” said Congressman Bill Huizenga. “These individuals are just a sample of those who have answered the call during this unprecedented time in our nation’s history. The Patriot Bonus incentivizes pay raises and bonuses for essential employees. If the government is going to ask or in some cases require citizens to stay home, those who provide essential services should be rewarded.” The Patriot Bonus is the second piece of legislation Congressman Huizenga has introduced to recognize the courage and dedication of essential employees during the coronavirus outbreak. On April 3rd, Congressman Huizenga introduced H.R. 6433, the HEROES Act. The HEROES Act would provide a four month federal income tax holiday to health care workers, first responders, and staff members at senior care facilities.
