Huizenga Announces Federal Grants to Address Coronavirus for Holland, Muskegon, Muskegon Heights, Norton Shores, Wyoming, and Kent County

Today, Congressman Bill Huizenga (MI-02) announced that multiple West Michigan communities will be receiving federal grants through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). These Community Development Block Grants (CDBG), which were authorized by the CARES Act, are designed to help communities respond locally to challenges created by the coronavirus.

The communities that will be receiving these grants are Holland, Muskegon, Muskegon Heights, Norton Shores, and Wyoming. Kent County will also receive a Community Develop Block Grant as well as an Emergency Shelter Grant to limit the spread of the virus among the homeless population and to help reduce increases in homelessness due to financial distress. These grants will be formally awarded on April 2nd.

“The coronavirus is creating challenges for communities across West Michigan,” said Congressman Huizenga. “These grants will provide local governments with the flexibility to respond effectively to help the most vulnerable members of our society.”

• Holland: $191,446

• Muskegon: $585,238

• Muskegon Heights: $260,496

• Norton Shores: $83,261

• Wyoming: $340,484

• Kent County: $1,023,791

Emergency Shelter Grants

• Kent County: $532,303
