WHTC: Huizenga, Upton Give Thumbs Up To Lifting of Steel and Aluminium Tariffs on Canada and Mexico

Zeeland Republican Congressman Bill Huizenga and St. Joseph Republican Fred Upton each issued statements saying they're pleased with an the agreement made between the United States, Canada, and Mexico to lift tariffs on steel and aluminum.

Huizenga's statement:

“The elimination of steel and aluminum tariffs between the U.S., Canada, and Mexico is welcome news and a very positive step that will have a significant impact on Michigan. As Chair of the Canada-United States Inter-parliamentary Group, I have been in close discussions with my Canadian counterparts. This agreement now sets the stage for a much broader conversation to improve our trading relationship with both Canada and Mexico so more hardworking Michiganders and job creators can benefit from trade between our nations.”

Upton's statement:

“I welcome the news the Administration is set to lift steel and aluminum tariffs on our closest trading partners, Canada and Mexico. Just this week, I met with local manufacturers and job creators in southwest Michigan and heard from them directly that these tariffs were driving costs up, hurting their business, and putting countless jobs at risk. I have repeatedly urged the administration to lift these tariffs and am glad they are set to do so. This is a big win for manufacturers and job creators in our state and across the country.”
