Huizenga Statement on House Passage of Bipartisan Great Lakes Water Infrastructure Bill
Washington,
June 6, 2018
This evening, Congressman Bill Huizenga (MI-02) released the following statement after the House passed the Water Resources Development Act (WRDA), bipartisan legislation that is critical to maintaining and developing water infrastructure along the coasts, throughout the Great Lakes, and across the nation. WRDA passed by a margin of 408-2.
"Having modern and functioning infrastructure on the Great Lakes is critical to economic growth and job creation in West Michigan. This important bipartisan legislation prioritizes the Soo Locks which not only play a vital in Michigan's economy but our nation's economy as a whole. Additionally, WRDA continues to hold the Army Corps of Engineers accountable by expediting the Corps' proposal to stop Asian carp from entering the Great Lakes known as the Brandon Road Study. Overall, WRDA takes positive steps toward strengthening job creation and the Great Lakes economy while preventing bureaucratic red tape from jeopardizing the Great Lakes ecosystem." |
