Today, Congressman Huizenga announced the start of the 2017 Congressional App Challenge (CAC) for K-12 students throughout Michigan’s Second District. Currently, the United States is experiencing a shortage of adequately trained technical talent. By some estimates there are nearly a quarter of a million unfilled programming jobs in America, right now. The Congressional App Challenge is an effort to maintain American competitiveness, by proactively inspiring our youth and encouraging them to pursue these crucial skills.
“With technology playing a larger role in our economy and society than ever before, it is critical that we prepare students with the tools to succeed,” said Congressman Huizenga. “The Congressional App Challenge inspires students to explore and develop new skills by creating and programming apps for smartphones, tablets, and computers. I look forward to seeing the innovative and creative work from students across West Michigan.” The competition is open through November 1, 2017. Entries must be submitted by noon on November 1st. Students may participate individually or in groups of up to four. For more information on the Congressional App Challenge, students, educators, and parents are encouraged to visit the Congressional App Challenge’s website.
