Huizenga Votes To Protect The Constitution
Washington,
January 14, 2015
Congressman Huizenga (MI-02) released the following statement after voting to fund the Department of Homeland Security and defund President Obama’s unconstitutional executive actions on immigration:
“Today, I cast my vote to stop President Obama’s unilateral action on immigration. The Constitution affords Congress, not the President the ability to make law. It’s that simple. This shouldn’t be an argument between Republicans and Democrats; this should be about ensuring the President abides by the separation of powers engrained in the Constitution. “This House-passed legislation completely defunds the President’s executive actions, serves as the first step by this Congress to secure the border, and lays the foundation for the necessary changes that need to be made to fix our nation’s broken immigration system. In order to have a productive discussion on immigration reform, the President must work within the framework laid out by the Constitution, abandon his current path of going it alone, and join the Republican-led Congress at the table.” |
