Rep. Bill Huizenga tasked to head US House monetary policy subcommittee

Come January 2015, one West Michigan legislator will move up the ranks in a new Congress.

U.S. Rep. Bill Huizenga, R-Zeeland, has been assigned to chair the Financial Services Subcommittee on Monetary Policy and Trade. The position tasks the third-term congressman with the authority to review the Federal Reserve's board and keep oversight on its policies. ...

"It's very broad that in one sense, it's dealing with a massive issue and that is the Federal Reserve and our monetary policies," Huizenga said. "For one, all you have to do is look at what's happening at interest rates: cars, mortgages, the value of money. It does seem very academic on one hand, but there's a lot of practical and real-world ramifications."
