Huizenga Supports Bipartisan Legislation To Boost Job Creation, Streamline Government

Congressman Bill Huizenga (MI-02) released the following statement after voting in support of H.R. 803 - The Workforce Investment and Opportunity Act, which passed the House by a vote of 415-6:

"As I meet with job creators throughout West Michigan, there is one overarching message - businesses cannot find workers with the skills needed to fill open jobs. This bipartisan jobs legislation eliminates 15 duplicative and ineffective workforce training programs and replaces them with an updated, more worker-friendly system that makes the federal government more efficient and more effective.

"Currently, there are more than 78,000 high-skilled job openings in Michigan, however the current 'skills gap' prevents many of those jobs from being filled. The Workforce Investment and Opportunity Act will help workers get the training they need to attain these in-demand jobs and help get people in Michigan and around the country back to work."
