Rep. Bill Huizenga gets high marks from manufacturers' association
MLive - Zane McMillin April 11, 2013 GRAND RAPIDS, MI — Rep. Bill Huizenga of Zeeland scored high marks from the National Association of Manufacturers, the largest industrial trade association in the country. Huizenga, a second-term congressman and small business owner, voted for NAM's legislative priorities 95 percent of time time during the 2011-12 congressional session. He received the association's Manufacturing Legislative Excellence award during an event this week at Amway headquarters in Ada. In a statement, Huizenga called the award an "honor." "Manufacturing has been a staple of West Michigan's economy since the furniture industry broke ground here so many years ago," Huizenga said. "West Michigan has built a reputation on not only the quality of the products manufactured here, but the skilled designers and workers that craft them as well." NAM scored lawmakers on 37 different votes. Huizenga received positive marks for voting to repeal the Affordable Care Act and to diminish some regulatory requirements. Elsewhere in Michigan, Rep. Justin Amash, R-Cascade Township, voted with NAM 81 percent of the time. Rep. Fred Upton, R-St. Joseph, scored 97 percent. The Michigan representatives — Mike Rogers, R-Brighton; Candice Miller, R-Harrison Township; and Dave Camp, R-Midland — received 100 percent. |
