Washington, D.C. — Rep. Bill Huizenga chose a different way to tell constituents about a bill he’s introduced.

In a video released this week, he stood with the Supreme Court as his backdrop and outlined the Health Freedom for Seniors Act, which would allow seniors to roll money from their IRAs or 401Ks into Health Savings Accounts without being taxed on the money.

"H.R. 3819 does two things,” the Republican congressman from Zeeland said in a prepared statement. “First, it continues the tradition and habit for many Americans to pay tax-free for out of pocket health care expenses, such as doctor visits or prescription drugs. Second, it gives seniors a tax break and allows them to fund retiree health expenses tax-free."

With so many forms of media at their fingertips, Huizenga’s office decided to communicate with constituents via video, his spokesman Brian Patrick said.

Huizenga introduced H.R. 3819 in January. It remains in committee.

“Congressman Huizenga thought the Supreme Court ruling provided a unique opportunity to reach constituents across multiple platforms by doing an ‘Update From Washington’ style video,” Patrick said.

Huizenga starts the video by saying: “It’s not just the weather that’s heating up. I’m standing here on the steps of the Supreme Court. We’re awaiting that judgment coming out of the Supreme Court here on the president’s health
care reform bill — Obamacare. We know that this decision is going to be monumental. It’s going to be a huge decision for us as a country. And I believe that unless the Supreme Court throws out the entire bill, the entire law, I think we’re going to be looking at another repeal situation.”

Reps. Dan Burton, R-Ind., Ron Paul, R-Texas, and Aaron Schock, R-Ill., are co-sponsors of the Health Freedom for Seniors Act.
