Carferry files for EPA permit early, lab says discharge well below what's allowed for other companies

Huizenga expresses his support for SS Badger

This morning Congressman Huizenga was in Ludington for this year's maiden voyage of the S.S. Badger.  The Ludington Daily News covered the press conference prior to the Badger setting sail as well as the Badger's inaugural trip across Lake Michigan for 2012.

U.S. Rep. Bill Huizenga attended Thursday’s press conference to say he supports LMC’s efforts to continue ferry service across the lake. He noted that the service is directly responsible for hundreds of jobs in western Michigan and eastern Wisconsin, as well as indirectly responsible for many more jobs in tourism-related areas. Huizenga said the issue shouldn’t be about pitting one western Michigan community against another, but should be about the entire state’s economy. “Today shouldn’t be the end of an era, it should be the beginning of a new one,” he said. He also noted that LMC has jumped through all the hoops the EPA has thrown up.
