Obama Shuts Off Pipe to U.S. Job Creation and Energy Independence and Opens the Spigot for China

U.S. Rep. Bill Huizenga released the following reaction to President Obama today denying the application to build the Keystone Pipeline, which Huizenga has strongly supported:

“Obama today has shut off the pipe to U.S. job creation and energy independence, and opened the spigot for China to come in and take that oil.  It is very disheartening that President Obama would so blatantly illustrate he is more concerned about the next election than energy security and nearly 150,000 new American jobs for the next generation,” Huizenga said.

  • As House Democrats wrote in a letter to President Obama, this project will “create 20,000 direct jobs” and “spur the creation of more than 118,000 spin-off jobs."
  • It has been more than three years since the application was filed to build the Keystone XL pipeline and bring jobs and energy security to America. The president had an opportunity to bring American jobs and energy independence, and he rejected it on the unfathomable basis that he didn't have time to review it. After three years, there is no excuse.
