Huizenga Statement on the FY2012 Budgets Passed by the House Today

U.S. Rep. Bill Huizenga, MI-02, released the following statement on his votes for the Budget Committee and the Republican Study Committee (RSC) fiscal year 2012 budgets:

"I voted yes today for both Chairman Paul Ryan’s budget and the RSC budget, for a more stable and secure America for my kids and your kids, and our grandkids.

It’s far past time we have a fact-based conversation on the national budget, and the fact is: the era of tax-and-spend is over. Congress tried that, and it has been proven unsustainable. Chairman Ryan's budget is the first step to long-term spending reform that will restore our country's good credit and return fiscal responsibility to government, and the RSC budget takes it further, faster, which is even more desirable.

This is not the end of the fight. We must continue to push the Senate on cuts, and we must start talking about true reforms of Medicaid, Medicare, and Social Security, to make them sustainable again without hurting current recipients.

Unfortunately, we are seeing the other party stuck in its old Washington ways, trying to keep playing politics as usual. We must begin budgeting for future generations, not future elections. Only then can we start to truly change the trajectory of spending in Washington,” Huizenga said.
