Huizenga Statement on $400 Million Investment for SMRs at Palisades

Today, Congressman Bill Huizenga (R-MI) released the following statement after it was announced the Department of Energy was awarding $400 million to Holtec in order to build two small modular reactors or SMRs at the Palisades Nuclear Power Plant.

With this announcement, Southwest Michigan will be on the cutting edge of the next generation of nuclear energy in America. Holtec’s plans to deploy two state-of-the-art SMRs makes the repowering of the Palisades Power Plant and the contributions it will make to energy security even more significant.  This new $400 million grant will multiply power generation capacity at Palisades, enhance the workforce, and support highly skilled union jobs, all while boosting community development and the local economy.  I’m proud to continue leading the charge in Congress to keep Southwest Michigan at the forefront of America’s energy future through the Palisades Project.  I’m thankful for bipartisan support of our letter on behalf of this critical project and for the Trump Administration and Holtec’s continued shared investment in Southwest Michigan.
