Weekly Column: The 47th President and a New Administration

On Monday, January 20, our nation officially inaugurated President Donald J. Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance at the U.S. Capitol. It was a historic day celebrating our country, the memory of Martin Luther King Jr., and the swearing-in of the new Trump Administration.

While I know my fellow Michiganders understand “extreme cold,” it made sense for the ceremony to be moved inside the Capitol Rotunda due to the weather. I know President Trump had everyone’s safety in mind. I was honored to still be able to personally greet many of the constituents from Michigan’s Fourth Congressional District who came down to celebrate the Inauguration and the weekend’s events.

In his inaugural speech, President Trump delivered a straightforward plan of action, detailing his commitment to secure the border, strengthen our economy, and make life more affordable for families here in Michigan and across our nation. The President said, “The golden Age of America begins right now,” and as your Representative in Congress, I am committed to working with the new administration to ensure Southwest Michigan’s interests and values are at the forefront of our national comeback. Our residents have a lot to offer and a lot to gain – from our robust manufacturing sector and hardworking farmers to our brave first responders and resilient families.

With the festivities now out of the way, it’s time to get to work to make the government more accountable. As my work in Congress continues, conversations are taking shape to make the federal government more efficient and more effective with taxpayer dollars. With so much happening in the first 100 days, I encourage you to sign up for my official newsletter, The Huizenga Huddle, and continue to read these columns for important updates.
