We’re all too familiar with the problems caused by the Biden-Harris Administration allowing more than 10 million illegal immigrants into our country. Now, under President Trump, we are finally getting solutions.
Since day one, President Trump has been delivering on his promise to secure our border. Just hours after his inauguration, he ordered the following: declaring a national emergency at the Southern Border, resuming building the wall, restarting “Remain in Mexico”, ending catch & release, surging resources to our border law enforcement, shutting down the CBP One app, and designating the cartels as Foreign Terrorist Organizations. This is just the start. The Trump Administration is also currently executing a targeted enforcement strategy that prioritizes violent criminals who are here illegally. In the first week of President Trump’s second term alone, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has deported 7,300 of these criminals, including a suspected terrorist, gang members, murderers, and worse. Additionally, the Republican-led Congress hit the ground running this month by passing – in a bipartisan fashion – the Laken Riley Act, which authorizes the removal of individuals who have committed theft crimes while they were in the United States illegally. This legislation is now headed to President Trump’s desk to be signed into law! The House also passed H.R. 30, the Preventing Violence Against Women by Illegal Aliens Act, with bipartisan support. This bill would create explicit grounds of removability for illegal immigrants who commit a sex or domestic violence offense. It also states that committing such an offense would make an individual inadmissible to the United States. Our nation has a rich history of immigration, especially in Southwest Michigan. This can and should continue, but it must be done through the proper legal channels. By restoring ICE’s ability to enforce the law, President Trump has taken the appropriate action to defend our communities and protect American citizens.
