Huizenga Statement on Foreign Aid Package
Washington,
April 20, 2024
Today, Congressman Bill Huizenga (R-MI) released the following statement after the House voted on three separate funding measures for Israel, Ukraine, and the Indo-Pacific Region.
"When considering emergency supplementals, we must examine each supplemental individually," said Congressman Bill Huizenga. "Regarding aid for Israel, I supported this measure because we must ensure our greatest ally in the Middle East has the resources to defend itself from Iran, Hamas, and additional terrorist proxy groups in the region that wish to do our ally harm. "Regarding the Ukraine supplemental, I could not support this legislation because of the overall price tag of $61.7 billion and the fact that it funded programs well beyond just military assistance. This is why I voted for the Cammack amendment which would have limited aid to military assistance and reduced the price tag of this legislation. We must question whether American taxpayers should be paying the salaries of Ukrainian bureaucrats. Unfortunately, this amendment failed which is why I could not support this supplemental. "Regarding Taiwan, the Philippines, and the Indo-Pacific Region, I have been a vocal leader to make sure our allies have the basic resources necessary to counter increasing Chinese aggression. The Biden Administration must act in good faith and timeliness with our allies in the Indo-Pacific region to deter and counter China’s growing malign influence." |
