Huizenga Votes to Impeach Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas

Today, Congressman Bill Huizenga (R-MI) released the following statement after voting to impeach Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.

“Tonight, Secretary Mayorkas was impeached for knowingly and willfully subverting our nation’s laws and violating his oath of office,” said Congressman Bill Huizenga. “He has violated several provisions of the Immigration and Nationality Act, including the provision requiring the arrest of individuals who are by law inadmissible to the US due to a their criminal background or charges related to terrorism in their home country.

"Additionally, Secretary Mayorkas has willfully ignored the law by enacting a “catch and release” program that has allowed individuals illegally in the  United States to stay for years after skipping their required day in court.

"Since President Biden took office, over 8.3 million illegal crossings into the US have taken place. The fact of the matter is that Secretary Mayorkas has circumvented our immigration laws and broken the trust of the American people. His blatant disregard of the law has made the crisis along our southern border even worse. For these reasons, I voted to restore accountability and impeach Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.”
