Zeeland West Student Wins 4th District Congressional Art Competition

Yesterday, Congressman Bill Huizenga (MI-04) announced that Lauren Molag, a student at Zeeland West High School, as the winner of the 2023 Congressional Art Competition. Lauren’s piece “Lemons” will be sent to the U.S. Capitol and put on display with works of art created by students from across the nation. Lauren created her piece using oil paint.

This year’s runner up was “Time and (Time) Again” created by Zeeland West Student Sarah Heiser, and the third place finisher in the competition is “We Are All Americans” by Portage Central High School Student, Nora O’Neill. Each entry was evaluated by a panel of local art and design professionals. The top 10 pieces submitted from local student artists are available to view online here

“Congratulations to Lauren on winning this year’s Congressional Art Competition,” said Congressman Bill Huizenga. “Lemons will be a standout work of art that demonstrates Lauren’s command of oil painting when it is put on display at the U.S. Capitol for visitors from around the world to see.”
