This week, I was excited to announce the start of the 4th District Congressional Art Competition. First started in 1982, the Congressional Art Competition is a nationwide visual art competition that recognizes the artistic talent of high school students. This competition is a great opportunity for young artists to showcase their talent and further develop their skills. The competition is open to all high school students who reside in the 4th District. The winning piece will have the honor of being displayed in the “Cannon Tunnel” that connects the U.S. Capitol and the Cannon House Office Building for approximately one year. Individuals, families, and dignitaries from around the country and across the globe will be able to view the winning artwork from the 4th Congressional District. While I am a big supporter of the Congressional Art Competition, the works themselves will be reviewed by a panel of local art and design professionals who will determine the winning entry as well as the second and third place entries. The winning artist will have the opportunity to attend a meeting with their fellow student artists from across the nation in Washington, D.C. The second and third place finishers will have their pieces put on display in my Holland office. The Congressional Art Competition is a wonderful way to get students involved and engaged with Congress. The Top 10 finalists will be invited to participate in a showing at the South Haven Center for the Arts. Additionally, I will highlight the finalists work on Instagram and Facebook. The rules and requirements for the Congressional Art Competition can be found on my website at Huizenga.House.Gov. Students are limited to one entry and entries must be submitted by 5pm on Monday April 17th . I look forward to seeing the innovative and imaginative artwork from student artists across Southwest Michigan! If you need help navigating a federal agency, please visit Huizenga.House.Gov or call my office in Holland at (616) 251-6741 or in Washington at (202) 225-4401 so we can assist you.
