Huizenga Votes to Protect Taxpayers & Small Businesses, Rescind 87,000 New IRS Agents

Tonight, Congressman Bill Huizenga (MI-04) released the following statement after voting for the Family and Small Business Taxpayer Protection Act. This legislation would rescind $72 billion in spending passed by the previous Congress to massively expand the IRS with 87,000 new agents.

“The answer to ending Washington’s addiction to spending is not more government,” said Congressman Bill Huizenga. “According to one analysis, returning audit rates to 2010 levels would mean 1.2 million more audits with over half of those audits hitting taxpayers making $75,000 or less. Under the legislation passed by the previous Congress, low- and middle-income taxpayers, hardworking families, and small businesses across Southwest Michigan would be needlessly targeted and harassed by a supercharged IRS with thousands of new agents. This is wrong. I voted against this misguided proposal in the previous Congress, and I am proudly voting to reverse the funding for it today.”
