Zeeland East Student Wins 2022 Congressional Art Competition, Will Have Work Displayed at U.S. Capitol

Today, Congressman Bill Huizenga (R-MI) announced that Biruk Kwantes, a student at Zeeland East High School, as the winner of the 2022 Congressional Art Competition. Biruk’s piece “Roll of the Dice” will be sent to the U.S. Capitol and put on display with works of art created by students from across the nation. Biruk created his piece using colored pencils. This year’s runner up was “You Need to Look Up” created by Zeeland West Student Reyna Lopez, and the third place finisher in the competition is “Just two Sisters Bonding” by Zeeland East Student Olivia Reed. Each entry was evaluated by a panel of local art and design professionals. The top 12 pieces submitted from local student artists are available to view online here. “Congratulations to Biruk on creating a wonderful work of art,” said Congressman Bill Huizenga. “’Roll of the Dice’ highlights Biruk’s skill and will definitely be a must see while on display at the U.S. Capitol.” |
