Today, Congressman Bill Huizenga (R-MI) announced his support for H.R. 6056, the Parents Bill of Rights Act. This legislation defines concrete protections for parents and guidelines for schools to follow in an effort to encourage positive dialogue and strengthen the education our children receive in schools across America. “Parents know their children best, ” said Congressman Bill Huizenga. “Far too often we have seen officials at the federal, state, and even the local level move to shut parents out of their child’s education. This is completely unacceptable and absolutely the wrong approach. The Parents Bill of Rights Act empowers parents to have a greater role in the education of their child, ask questions, and work with school officials to achieve the best outcome possible for their children.” The Parents Bill of Rights Act is built on five core principles that would apply to all schools nationwide that receive federal funding.
The Parents Bill of Rights Act was introduced by Congresswoman Julia Letlow (R-LA), who stated, “As a mom of two and a former educator, I firmly believe that the relationship between parents and schools should be collaborative. This bill contains common-sense ideas, and it also fully opens the door for those partnerships. Excluding parents from education will never work because it ignores the simple truth that these are our children, not the government’s.” The legislative text for the Parents Bill of Rights Act is available to read and review here. |
