Huizenga Statement on Study Showing Michigan Having the Slowest Recovery in the Nation
Washington,
June 8, 2021
Today, Congressman Bill Huizenga (MI-02) released the following statement after WalletHub published a new study showing that Michigan is experiencing the slowest recovery in the nation from the COVID-19 pandemic. In the study, WalletHub compared the 50 states and the District of Columbia across three key dimensions: COVID Health, Leisure & Travel, and Economy & Labor Market. Overall, Michigan scored an abysmal 38.78 finishing last in the nation, while Iowa finished first with a score of 75.25. “Michigan experiencing the slowest recovery in the nation is a direct result of Governor Whitmer’s misguided policies and hypocritical leadership,” said Congressman Bill Huizenga. “The mandates issued by Governor Whitmer and her Administration were among the strictest and most economically damaging in the nation. These actions led to countless Michiganders losing their jobs as well as their livelihoods as restaurants, small businesses, and employers across the state were forced to close for a prolonged period of time or shut down entirely. To this day, the Whitmer Administration’s ad hoc approach has not been based in science and Michiganders continue to pay the price.” |
