January 26, 2021
Today, Congressman Huizenga announced 15 Second District nominees to the U.S. Service Academies for the Class of 2025. These students will be considered for appointment to one or more of the following: the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, NY, the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD, the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, CO, and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, NY. “It is one of my greatest honors to nominate determined, young leaders from West Michigan for appointment to a U.S. Service Academy,” said Congressman Bill Huizenga. “West Michigan has a reputation of sending the best and brightest to the academies and I have the utmost confidence that these students will continue advancing that tradition. Choosing to pursue an appointment to a U.S. Service Academy is not one that comes lightly, and I commend these 15 students for their dedication and desire to serve our country.” The nominations are based upon an academy advisory board interview that evaluates criteria such as academic achievement, extracurricular achievement, and leadership abilities. Further information on requirements for nomination and the application process is available here. Congressman Huizenga has nominated the following students for the Class of 2025. United States Naval Academy

A nomination does not guarantee appointment to an academy. An academy must receive a nomination from an authorized nominating source, one of which is a Member of Congress, before admitting a student and offering them an appointment to the academy. The U.S. Coast Guard Academy does not require a congressional nomination. |
