President Trump Joins Huizenga, Bipartisan Effort To Protect and Preserve the Great Lakes

Today, Congressman Bill Huizenga (MI-02) issued the following statement after President Trump’s FY 2021 budget was released showing the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative (GLRI) fully funded at $320 million:

“In this budget the President demonstrated his commitment to Michigan and the entire Great Lakes region by fully funding the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative,” said Congressman Huizenga, Co-Chair of the House Great Lakes Task Force. “Having the President engage on this critical issue improves the chances for bipartisan legislation to be signed into law that will protect and strengthen the Great Lakes. I want to thank the President and his Administration for working with me to make the preservation of the Great Lakes a national priority.”

Last March, Congressman Huizenga, Congressman Bergman, and Congressman Moolenaar met with the President in West Michigan to discuss the importance of Great Lakes and how the GLRI plays a critical role in strengthening the economy and the ecology of the Great Lakes. Following that meeting, President Trump announced in Grand Rapids that he was updating his FY 2020 budget to fully fund the GLRI.
