Today, Congressman Bill Huizenga (MI-02) joined the Muskegon Rotary, the United Way of the Lakeshore, Muskegon area high school students, Baker College Students, and members of the West Michigan community to assist with repairs, painting, and removing yard debris at the home of Melvin Dunbar, a disabled U.S. Army Veteran, in Muskegon Heights. This event was part of the broader “Day of Caring” initiative led by the United Way of the Lakeshore.
“It was absolutely incredible to be a part of the United Way of the Lakeshore’s “Day of Caring” and make a positive impact,” said Congressman Huizenga. “It’s neighbors helping neighbors and volunteers from across the community working to make life better for veterans like Mr. Dunbar that demonstrate what a special place West Michigan truly is. Thank you to everyone who joined in today’s clean up and improvement efforts, especially the large number of students from Orchard View, North Muskegon, and Baker College.” “Words can’t even explain how grateful I am,” Mr. Dunbar said about the assistance from Rotarians, students, and the United Way. “I’ve been here 20 years and I’ve been trying to get stuff done by myself and it just doesn’t work when it’s one person, but I see the army came today and we are on the move. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. We couldn’t have done this without you.” |
