Tonight, Congressman Bill Huizenga (MI-02) released the following statement on the humanitarian crisis along the southern border:
"House Republicans have tried to take action 18 times to provide humanitarian assistance and address the crisis on our southern border. Every one of these attempts has been either blocked or rejected by House Democrats. Finally, nearly two months after the President’s funding request, the Majority put forward a proposal that is sadly yet again about politics instead of policy. "By preventing the Department of Homeland Security from moving employees to the border to address the surge, failing to provide funding for human trafficking investigations, denying additional funding for immigration courts to speed up hearings, and not ensuring our men and women serving on the border get paid for the hours they are working, it's clear that Speaker Pelosi and Democrats are more interested in grabbing political headlines than solving problems with good policy. "I am hopeful the Senate is able to move their bipartisan proposal focused on addressing the crisis because it's clear that the Majority in the House isn’t interested in actually helping resolve the crisis they have all but ignored." |
