Huizenga Statement on the IMF Ending Its Bailout of Greece

Today, House Capital Markets, Securities, and Investment Subcommittee Chairman Bill Huizenga (R-MI) released the following statement regarding the International Monetary Fund's (IMF) announcement that it would no longer provide financial assistance to Greece.

"The IMF is doing the right thing by letting the Eurozone solve what has been a Eurozone problem all along," said Chairman Huizenga. "As the Fund's lead shareholder, the U.S. should ensure, through legislation if necessary, that the IMF can't be politicized the way it was when bailing out Greece. Lessons from the experience in Greece call for clear guidelines when the IMF takes part in co-financing arrangements, whether they're in Europe or elsewhere. Otherwise, the Fund's accountability to its broader membership will be put at risk."
