Huizenga Votes to Send Right to Try Legislation to the President's Desk
Washington,
May 23, 2018
Today, Congressman Bill Huizenga (MI-02) released the following statement after voting in support of the Trickett Wendler, Frank Mongiello, Jordan McLinn, and Matthew Bellina Right to Try Act. This legislation allows terminally ill patients, who have exhausted all other options, to try medications that have passed basic Food and Drug Administration (FDA) safety protocols but not completed the full multi-year approval process. This version of the legislation has already passed the U.S. Senate and will now head to the President’s desk to be signed into law.
“The Right to Try Act offers patients suffering from a terminal illness a fighting chance by affording them the right to try experimental drugs that have passed the FDA’s basic safety testing,” said Congressman Huizenga. “This potentially lifesaving legislation cuts through the red tape and gives hope to both patients and their families. The Right to Try Act is a tremendous example of how Congress can come together and pass bipartisan legislation that promotes a culture of life.” |
