Huizenga Votes to Protect Students, Improve School Safety
Washington,
March 14, 2018
Today, Congressman Bill Huizenga (MI-02) released the following statement after voting in support of H.R. 4909, the STOP School Violence Act. This bipartisan legislation reauthorizes and improves the Secure Our Schools Program by providing local law enforcement, educators, administrators, and students with tools to proactively address and prevent threats. The STOP School Violence Act passed by a vote of 407 to 10.
“Ensuring students have a safe learning environment shouldn’t be a partisan issue. I am glad to see Republicans and Democrats support common sense bipartisan legislation that empowers local school districts to determine how best to improve school safety. The STOP School Violence Act takes an important first step in improving ways to identify signs of violence, enhancing intervention resources, and strengthening coordination between local law enforcement, school personnel, and students.” |
