Huizenga: Ongoing Greek Debt Crisis Demonstrates that Further IMF Reforms are on the Table
Washington,
November 18, 2016
Today, Monetary Policy and Trade Subcommittee Chairman Bill Huizenga (MI-02) released the following statement on President Obama's inability to reach a solution with our European allies regarding the IMF and Greece's ongoing debt crisis:
"It is unfortunate that President Obama has failed to reach a deal with the Europeans to resolve Greece’s debt crisis. With Greek debt unsustainable, the International Monetary Fund shouldn’t be allowed to violate its rules and throw good money after bad. Nor should the IMF be forced to become a sidekick to the Eurozone’s own, larger bailout fund. As we look ahead to a new Congress and administration, the IMF’s continued involvement with Greece, if any, will inform our assessment of the IMF’s accountability and the need for future reforms." |
