Huizenga: The American People Deserve To Know The Truth About Benghazi

This evening, Congressman Bill Huizenga (MI-02) released the following statement after voting in support of establishing a Select Committee on the Events Surrounding Benghazi:

"For nearly two years, the Obama Administration has stonewalled, diverted, and obstructed efforts to get to the bottom of what happened on September 11, 2012 in Benghazi, Libya and the events that ensued thereafter. The families of the fallen deserve closure and the American people deserve to know the truth.

"The Obama Administration cannot on the one hand claim to be transparent, while at the same time withhold documents and mislead the American people as to why an attack on a U.S. Consulate, resulting in the deaths of U.S. Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens, U.S. Foreign Service Information Management Officer Sean Smith, former Navy Seal Glen Doherty, and former Navy Seal Recipient Tyrone Woods, actually occurred. The creation of a Select Committee allows the House greater oversight of the executive branch and is the appropriate step to take in order to maintain our nation's constitutional system of checks and balances."
