Huizenga Votes To Fund VA, Increase Accountability, End Bonuses For Those Who Fail Our Veterans

Tonight, Congressman Bill Huizenga (MI-02) issued the following statement after voting in support of H.R. 4486 MilCon/VA Appropriations Act:

"Tonight the House acted in a bipartisan manner to ensure our veterans facilities are appropriately funded and are working to provide the best care for our nation's heroes after they come home. Recently however, media reports detail the system is failing our veterans. This legislation ends bonuses for bureaucrats who fail our veterans, increases oversight and accountability for regional VA Offices, and increases funding for traumatic brain injury, suicide prevention, mental health, and homeless support programs.

"Our veterans deserve better than the treatment they are currently receiving. This legislation is a significant step toward improving care, but it will be a long and arduous journey. I hope the Senate will immediately take up this measure, pass it, and send it to President Obama for his signature so we can continue to craft bipartisan solutions that eliminate the VA backlog."
