Huizenga: Federal Student Loan Interest Rate Likely to Double

Congressman Bill Huizenga says it's not looking good to keep federal student loans rates steady at 3.4%.

The Zeeland Republican called this a political problem that didn't have to hit people at a family level.

"The Senate has gone home and there's no opportunity to fix this. The Republicans in the House have fixed it, and the Democrats have refused to do so."

Huizenga said the House came up with a formula for Stafford and Plus loans like President Obama suggested, and it passed that chamber.

Loan rates head to 6.8% on Monday without action from the Senate. Senators left this week without acting.
