Huizenga Joins Red Cross Relief Efforts To Help West Michigan Families

Today, Congressman Bill Huizenga (MI-02) visited the Kentwood Community Center and participated in relief efforts with Red Cross volunteers and staff members to help those impacted by flooding along the Lakeshore and in the Greater Grand Rapids Area:

"In times of need, the American Red Cross and the Salvation Army are vital lifelines for the community," said Huizenga. "These volunteer powered relief organizations embody the spirit of West Michigan and will play a critical role as our communities continue to endure historic flooding throughout the weekend."

Kelly Hudson, Regional Communication Officer for the American Red Cross of West Michigan made the following statement:

"The American Red Cross of West Michigan currently has six shelters open in the region due to flooding, and we were happy to welcome Congressman Bill Huizenga into our shelter in Kentwood this morning. Raising awareness of preparedness, volunteerism, and shelter locations is very important during a disaster, and the Red Cross appreciates the congressman's efforts to keep the community informed."
