Huizenga: North Korea Nuclear Test Warrants Actions, Not Words

The Zeeland Republican wants the international community to think about more economic sanctions and reconsider food aid and other programs.

The United Nations Security Council says it "strongly condemns" North Korea's nuclear test Tuesday.

In Washington, DC, West Michigan congressman Bill Huizenga told WOOD Radio the world needs to respond with more than just words, though.

He said North Korea has expressed a desire for being able to hit the US with a missile.

"The likelihood of them having the targeting ability and that kind of thing is pretty nil for us here in the United States.  They certainly are a threat to very strategic allies throughout Asia and the Pacific Rim."

The Zeeland Republican said tougher economic sanctions could help curtail further hostility from North Korea.

Huizenga said the international community should use such sanctions to keep North Korea from doing something that would warrant a military response.
