Huizenga Reintroduces Legislation To Protect Life, Protect Taxpayers
Washington,
February 5, 2013
Today, Congressman Bill Huizenga (MI-02) introduced the Homeland Security Respect for Life Act - H.R. 493, that prohibits taxpayer dollars appropriated for the Department of Homeland Security from being used to pay for an abortion and provides important conscience protections to those employees of the Department of Homeland Security:
"This commonsense measure protects life and closes the loophole created when immigration fell under the purview of the Department of Homeland Security. The Homeland Security Respect for Life Act ensures hard earned taxpayer dollars are not being used to pay for an abortion and provides conscience protections by preventing any taxpayer dollars from forcing an individual to help in the performance of an abortion. I am hopeful that the Senate and the President agree our bill simply follows precedent and is consistent with the current administration’s policy for other federal agencies." NOTE: Last year, legislative language similar to Congressman Huizenga's bill was adopted during the Homeland Security Appropriations process in the House. Congressman Huizenga is moving forward with legislation to permanently protect life, provide conscience protections and prevent taxpayer dollars from being used to assist in the performance of an abortion. |
