On Monday, Congressman Bill Huizenga (MI-02) held a reception celebrating the 2012 Congressional Art Competition Finalists and announced Connor Bade, a senior at West Ottawa, as the winner of the competition. Connor's piece "An Exaggeration" will join winners from across the country in being put on display in the U.S. Capitol for the next year. The Congressional Art Competition began in 1982 to provide an opportunity for Members of Congress to encourage and recognize the artistic talents of their young constituents. Since then, over 650,000 high school students have participated in the nationwide competition.
Congressman Huizenga said, "I want to congratulate Connor and all of the young artists who submitted their works of art for the Congressional Art Competition. It's encouraging to see the Second District is thriving with imagination and creativity. I also want to thank the teachers and parents who support and encourage their students and children to be involved in the arts.”
