Huizenga Invites Veterans to Learn More About How to Obtain Their Service Medals

Veterans of the 2nd District and their families are invited to an event TODAY, December 15 at the Fremont VFW to learn how Rep. Huizenga’s office can help them receive the military medals they earned for outstanding service to our nation.

The event will walk through how the process of receiving the medals works and offers the chance for veterans or the families of deceased veterans to submit or obtain the proper paperwork to do so.

“Our veterans sacrificed so much for their nation, and the chance to help get them the recognition and honors they so rightly deserve is one of the proudest and most humbling experiences of serving the 2nd District,” Huizenga said.

Veterans need to be prepared to sign a Privacy Release form that will enable our office to begin the inquiry process. They  should also bring a copy of their DD 214 form from the military, if available, or Huizenga’s office can help you obtain that as well. Once we have a signed release form and a DD 214, the office can inquire on their behalf to the appropriate branch of the military. It usually takes up to two months from the day of inquiry to get them their medals depending largely on what branch of the service they were in. Once the medals are sent to Huizenga’s office, they are presented to the veterans or their families in a formal ceremony.

“I am happy to help any veteran or their families obtain their service medals at any time. If you can’t make the event but you or a relative are interested in receiving your service medals, please contact my Cadillac office at (231) 775-0050 and speak with Jordan Kowalkowski for more information about how to start the application process,” Huizenga said.
