Huizenga to Present Service Medals to Five Area Veterans, including his father, at 10 a.m. TOMORROW in Zeeland

This holiday weekend, U.S. Rep. Bill Huizenga, MI-02, will present service medals for five 2nd District veterans and their families, including his father, Gerald Huizenga. The veterans served in World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. The ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. TOMORROW, July 2, at the Howard Miller Library in Zeeland.

 “It is one of my proudest moments in office to be able to present veterans and their families with the medals they earned sacrificing so much to serve their country and protect the freedoms we enjoy today,” Huizenga said. “I am especially honored to be able to see my father receive the full set of medals he earned while serving our nation in Italy during World War II.”

Medals earned by Congressman Huizenga’s father, Gerald Huizenga of Zeeland, a Staff Sergeant in the Army Air Force from 1942-1947:

·         European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon w/ 3 bronze service stars

·         Distinguished Unit Citation

·         Good Conduct Medal

·         Honorable Service Lapel Button WWII

 

Medals to be accepted by his son, Don Tubergen; earned by Arthur Tubergen of Muskegon, deceased, a Sergeant in the Army from 1944-1946:

·         Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal w/ 2 Bronze Service Stars

·         Philippine Liberation Ribbon w/ 1 Bronze Service Star

·         World War II Victory Medal

·         Purple Heart

·         Good Conduct Medal

·         Bronze Star Medal

 

Korean War Veteran

Medals earned by Nicolaas Ellerbroek of Holland, a Private First Class in the Army from 1951-1953:

·         Korean Service Medal w/ 1 Bronze Service Star

Vietnam War Veterans

Medals earned by Richard Overway of Holland, a Specialist 4th Class in the Army from 1964-1967:
