Today is the 236th birthday of the Army. On June 14, 1775, the Continental Congress authorized the original enlistment of 10 companies of riflemen to serve the United Colonies. “Today we celebrate the service of the Army in protecting the rights and freedoms of this great nation, and thank all the brave men and women who have served in the Army throughout its history,” said U.S. Rep. Bill Huizenga, MI-02. “We must remember to always honor the service and sacrifice all of our military men and women, our veterans, and their families.” For more on the complete history of the Army, please visit http://www.history.army.mil/index.html |
